A few months back, a dear friend of mine
unexpectedly lost his father. Buddy's father was in his late 50's early 60's at best. He was no spring chicken but, was far from having a foot in the grave ( so we thought ). After having to deal with the sorrow of burying his father, my friend was left to deal with his fathers estate. Unfortunately for my friend, there was no will and a non cooperative step-mother to deal with. Everything is working out as it will but it highlighted to my friend and I how estate planning is one of the most important things you can do to assure your family is taken care of once you pass away. For the longest time I didn't have life insurance or a will. The thought of either made me feel like I was closer to death. I now understand how important it is to have your affairs in order. Assuring your family doesn't have the financial burden of burying you is the most important things you can do. On top of not leaving that debt for your family, you may also have enough left over to leave something behind for your love ones. I know thinking about death is the last thing any of us want to do however, death is a reality of life. Make sure your have your affairs in order. I would recommend calling Metlife or AIGDirect. Some banks also offers life insurance policies as well. I know this post may seem like a debbie downer but it's something that us young adults need to Address
Godspeed.
